About the Mattress

Every Stumptown mattress is made in the shadow of Mount Rainier in the city of Sumner. Our manufacturer partner is a locally owned, independent mattress-maker known for their care and commitment to environmental stewardship.

The foam inside Stumptown Mattresses is classified as a cool memory foam. However; it’s far from the old-time memory foams that are known to sleep so hot. The Stumptown’s top layer is medical gel infused designed to absorb and displace the heat derived from your body, keeping you comfortable through the night. The gel infused foam brings instant relief to your pressure points. And it keeps the temperature of the foam mattress neutral and comfy all night long.

All foams used in Stumptown Mattresses are CertiPUR-US® and meet strict environmental standards. CertiPurUS certification means our mattress foam is free of a long list of not-so-healthy materials which can be found in other mattresses. No flame retardants. No formaldehyde. No mercury. No heavy metals. No Fiberglass in Stumptown Mattresses. Low VOC. Just sustainable, environmentally-friendly, satisfying sleep.

Shipping & Delivery

Shipping for orders from within Oregon and Washington is 1 to 4 days, or 2 to 6 days for our friends outside the Pacific Northwest.

In the Portland area we usually manage deliveries with our own team members. This means the best possible customer service and speedy delivery to your location. We occasionally work with delivery services like Task Rabbit and others for local deliveries. For all other locations in Washington and nationwide, we use UPS.

Unboxing & Setup

You may sense a very slight odor when you take the mattress out of the plastic wrap. This is typical of most new products. Any mild odor is considered harmless. We suggest you allow your mattress to sit without sheets for a few hours before you sleep on it for the first time.

All Stumptown mattresses will work well on most traditional support systems including a foundation/box, a slatted wood platform bed or a metal platform bed. If you want your mattress close to floor level, we recommend you purchase a 2-inch bunkie board to place under your mattress. We do not recommend placing your new mattress directly onto the floor or onto a solid flat surface. In cooler, wet climates you may experience mold build-up under your mattress. Air circulation under any mattress is important to keep mold and moisture off of your mattress.

The Stumptown Juniper is a 7" low profile. This allows for use in most bunk beds, trundles, and lofts.

The Lifetime Of Your Stumptown Mattress Depends On Rotations And Keeping Your Mattress Clean

  • Rotate your new mattress from head to foot every 2 weeks for the first 3 months. After the first three months, rotate every 2-3 months.
  • King Mattresses: King mattresses have a tendency to form a “ridge” in the middle. To prevent this from happening, quarter turn your mattress every 2 weeks for the first 3 months. If your frame does not allow for quarter turns, try to occasionally sleep in the middle of the mattress. Mattresses will only break in where they have been slept on. Please use a waterproof mattress protector or moisture wicking pad. This will keep out moisture, body oils, skin cells and dust mites.
  • Roll Packed Mattresses: Please allow 4-6 hours to expand before sleeping on. Roll packed mattresses take a few days to achieve full form and feel.

Returns & Warranty

We try to make this as easy as possible. We request that you email us: returns@stumptownmattress.com with your name, address and receipt number. We will work with a local non-profit group or private hauler to arrange pickup of your mattress. Once the pickup is made, the hauler will give you a receipt. We ask that you photograph or scan this receipt and email it to us. Please note: Usually this process can be completed within a few days. However; it may occasionally take up to two weeks (or longer in remote or rural areas) to identify and coordinate with an agency near your home. Once the mattress has been removed from your home we will issue a full refund. For security purposes, refunds can only be made to the original credit card used for the purchase. We may call or email to verify certain credit card security actions before issuing the refund. Credit card companies can take up to 10 days to credit back your account for refunds. Please read the complete terms and conditions before you check out!
